NITS: Compact Disc: DANKZIJ DE DIJKEN ===================================== Title: DANKZIJ DE DIJKEN - Freek de Jonge en de Nits, samenwerkend onder de naam FRITS Translated: DANKZIJ DE DIJKEN - Freek de Jonge and Nits, coorporating as FRITS (Thanks to the dykes) Columbia (c) 1995 Sony Music Entertainment (Holland) B.V. Ordernumber: COL 478605 2 This is a registration of 4 performances (between 18 and 31 december 1994), at the Nieuwe de la Mar Theater in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. During these performances, Dutch artist/comedian Freek de Jonge was accompanied by the Nits in a musical show. It was almost impossible to attend these performances, because they were immediately sold out, as all Freek de Jonge shows always are. Freek de Jonge is Dutch most popular (stand-up) comedian, well-known (in The Netherlands) for his early work with Bram Vermeulen as "Neerlands Hoop", and much more famous for his solo-shows after the "Neerlands Hoop" period. His shows always attend a large audience, however his (quite sarcistic) humour is not always appreciated by the large public. I wouldn't know with which other artist/comedian Freek de Jonge could be compared with. About the compact disc: ---------------------- All songs are in the Dutch language, lead-singer is Freek de Jonge. For as far as I could determine, all music by Henk Hofstede/R.J. Stips/ Rob Kloet is especially written for these performances, except "Dankzij de dijken", which is "In the Dutch Mountains" with new lyrics (no direct translation). I can't say that there are any highlights in the new music, but this new music serves very well in accomponying the lyrics of Freek de Jonge. I like the CD very much, but I'm Dutch (I think that helps), and since a long time I'm also a big fan of Freek de Jonge (that helps even more). This CD is a typical Freek de Jonge (& Nits) project, NOT a Nits (& Freek de Jonge) project.
